Abstract: Use of manipulative aids and teaching aids for providing concrete experiences to primary pupils has been emphasized by many educators. But, there are always certain topics such aids cannot be used. In such a situation, it is advisable to make use of non-visual illustrations through word symbolism and mental imagery devices,therefore, the primary teacher should always be on the look out for interesting stories, incidents,anecdotes and word-pictures for making his lessons vivid even in the absence of teaching aids (Kishore , 1993).
