According to Kishore (2001), before recitation or singing, the teacher must talk around some visuals to create a mental readiness for working on the poem. Relevant and appropriate poems are those which lead to cognitive gains and better language development. Children should be encouraged to write their own poems and should be guided to draw simple visual codes of the objects being described in the poems.
